Scott, me, & Audra at the Kailua-Kona Library Talk 6/24/200823 viewsThere is an interesting chain events that preceded this meeting! I had never heard of Nemu Nemu http://nemu-nemu.com until just last week, when I finally decided to read a book that had been in the library's comic section for a little while now. The front cover reminded me of Azumanga Daioh, so I thought I'd check it out. Well, it turns out that the authors live in Hawaii on Oahu, it's a compilation of a web comic, and that it's not drawn by Azuma Kiyohiko! So I go check out their web site and notice that they're traveling to libraries around the state on all the islands and talking about their work. So I check the schedule and they're having a meeting at the Kailua-Kona library next week...and I haven't missed it yet! The next week I get a ride with my Dad up to Kona (at 5AM) and twiddle my thumbs until 11AM (when the library opens). I then spend the next couple of hours drawing my Guy Enriques cartoons to sell at the 2008 Kau Hoolaulea until it's time for the meeting. It was a small group (very small, less than 8 youth), but I enjoyed the presentation very much. I either forgot my camera or the batteries died, so they took this picture of me with them using their camera and emailed it to me (thanks). I was able to share some of my work with them, as well as talk to them about what they use to do their web comic. They had some really neat ideas that I hadn't thought of yet, like placing a binder under the drawing tablet to get a tilt. Plus, it was made all that much cooler because they use Macs to do their work! And the most surprising highlight of the event was to find out that they were married not too long ago! They really don't advertise it that much like some other couples that create comics together. Overall, the 11 hour trip was well worth the inconvenience (I easily get car sick traveling to Kona) ^_^'
In case you're wondering, Audra does the artwork and coloring while Scott manages everything else (comic text, web site layout, etc.). Scott also likes to ink when he gets an inkling to do so ;)Sep 27, 2008
