About Cartoonist for Christ
Cartoonist for Christ (or CfC for short) was created in the spring of 2002. I was approached by the Sunday School's superintendent, James Webb, from my church (then Koolau Baptist Church) to create a Gospel tract that they could use for that summer's VBS (vacation Bible school). I was actually approached late in the year of 2001, but of course, I sat on the project until the last two months it was due (the great procrastinator strikes again!). I actually didn't think I could do it, so that's why I kept putting it off. After much prayer and working late into the night for a solid month, the tract was finally completed (this was the second version because I was new to all this stuff). After I had finished my tract, it was time to decide on a name for what I should call my ministry. There is a ministry called Carpenters for Christ, by Missionary Bob Stevenson, that I had helped recently with several projects, and that name greatly influenced my choice. But I couldn't decide between these four names: Cartoonist for Christ, Cartoonists for Christ, Cartoonist for Jesus, or Cartoonists for Jesus. I asked one of my friends about it on AIM, and he said that Christ was a bit more catchy than Jesus. Then my Mom said that there was only one of me, so it should be Cartoonist. And that's how I decided on the name: Cartoonist for Christ! Then, after all that work, we weren't able to use it because we couldn't find a printer (the local printer was too expensive for the budget...oh well). CfC is not an independent ministry. It is an extension of my ministry as a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. At the moment, CfC primarily creates and prints humorous tracts for Christians to use in their ministries. If it is desired, I can also create tracts based on your criteria, or even customize tracts already available (hey, I'm flexible...to a point). I do not charge any money for tracts or the services related to CfC. This is the Lord's ministry, and He can provide for the needs of CfC as they arise. CfC creates and prints all of its own material. CfC mainly uses an Epson Stylus Photo RX680 printer for all our printing (altho sometimes we'll pull out the ol Epson Stylus Photo R1800 if we can find really cheap ink for it). This printer has helped cut down on printing costs, as well as print high quality material. If any ministries that operate a printing press are interested in printing my tracts, then please contact me. The only requirements that I have is that I retain all copyrights, none of the content is altered without my permission, and that the tracts will not be sold (not even at cost). Below is our doctrinal statement of faith:
Doctrinal Statement of Faith
- The Holy Scriptures
We believe that the Bible, the sixty-six books in the Old and New Testaments is the verbal-plenary Word of God, that it was given by inspiration of God, that it is, therefore, inerrant and infallible in the original writings, and that it is the sole authority in all matters of faith and practice. (Places where taught: 2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
- The Trinity
We believe in the one, and only one, true and living God, eternally existing in three eternal persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power, and having the same attributes and perfections. (Places where taught: Deuteronomy 6:4; John 14:7-12, 16:7; Matthew 28:19)
- God the Father
God the Father is the first Person of the Trinity. He is personal and sovereign. He is perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, and measureless in power. He is merciful as well as just. He concerns Himself in the affairs of men. He hears and answers prayer, and He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Places where taught: Ephesians 1:17-23, 2:4-10, 4:6; Romans 3:21-26, 5:8, 8:29-33; Leviticus 11:44-45; 1 Peter 1:15-16; Isaiah 6:1-5; 1 Corinthians 1:25; Job 1:6-12, 2:1-6)
- God the Son
God the Son, Jesus Christ, the second Person of the Trinity, is God's only begotten Son, existing in Heaven from eternity past, virgin born, and sinless in His life. He made atonement for the sins of the world by shedding His blood in His death upon the cross at Calvary. He arose from the grave bodily, and ascended into Heaven where He is at the right hand of the Father and where He makes intercession for believers. We believe in the personal, imminent, pretribulational, premillennial rapture of believers. (Places where taught: Matthew 1:18-25, 28:5-6; John 3:16, 8:58, 17:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 51-58; Romans 3:24-28; Acts 1:9-11; Hebrews 1:13, 4:14-15, 7:25-26
- God the Holy Spirit
God the Holy Spirit came forth from God to convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He is true God, equal with the Father and with the Son and of the same substance. He regenerates, sanctifies, seals, indwells, and comforts those who are saved. He empowers for Christian service. He bears witness to the truth. He testifies concerning Jesus Christ, and He never leads anyone at any time contrary to the teaching of the Bible. (Places where taught: John 3:5-7, 14:16-17, 16:7-11; Acts 1:8, 5:3-4; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; Ephesians 1:13-14, 5:18-21; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Titus 3:5; 2 Peter 1:21)
- Satan
We believe in the reality of Satan as a distinct personality, who, having been perfectly created, fell from his exalted state through pride which prompted his rebellion against God, leading a multitude of the angelic host in his revolt; that he is the arch-enemy of God, having purpose to thwart the divine counsels, that he is the prince of this world, and the god of this age; that he is the king over the realm of demons as indicated by the name Beelzebub; that he is the adversary of believers and the accuser of the brethren; that he shall be barred from all access to heaven during the great tribulation, at the end of which he is to be bound in the abyss for a thousand years; that he shall be loosed for a little season at the close of the millennium to provoke the final rebellion of mankind against God, after which he is to be cast forever into the lake of fire as the execution of his sentence of judgment from Calvary. (Places where taught: Job 1:6-12, 2:1-7; Ezekiel 28:12-18; Isaiah 14:12-14; 1 Timothy 3:6; Revelation 12:3-4, 7-8, 10, 20:1-3, 7-8, 10; Matthew 4:1-11, 12:21-30; 2 Corinthians 4:3-4, 11:13-15; John 12:31, 16:11; 1 Peter 5:8)
- Man
We believe that all men are sinners, both by nature and by choice; but that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. We believe, therefore, that all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will rejoice forever in God's presence, and those who refuse to accept Christ, as Lord and Savior will be forever separated from God in Hell. Man was created in the image of God, but he sinned and thereby incurred not only spiritual death, which is separation from God, but also physical death. We believe that all human beings are born with a depraved sinful nature and are unable to remedy their lost condition, and in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word, and deed. (Places where taught: Romans 3:23, 5:12; 1 John 1:8, 10; John 3:16; 2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:21-23; Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 51:5)
- Salvation
We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to men by grace and received by repentance toward God and by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of sins. Salvation is solely through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ; and is not earned by any good works whatsoever. All those who receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are regenerated and become sons of God. (Places where taught: Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:24-25; John 1:12-13, 3:3-5; Titus 3:5; Acts 20:21)
- The Security of the Believer
We believe in the eternal security of the true believer and that it is the privilege of the believer to rejoice in the assurance of his salvation. (Places where taught: Romans 5:1-11, 8:29-39; John 10:27-30)
- The Church
We believe that the local church is God's program for this present age. It is not a business. It is composed of saved people who have been scripturally baptized (immersed) as a testimony of their salvation. There were two ordinances instituted by the Lord Jesus Christ to be carried on only by the local churches-Belliever's Baptism and the Lord's Supper. The local church is organized for worship, evangelism, indoctrination, the observance of the ordinances, and fellowship. We believe that the local church is autonomous, that it is the only agency which properly carries out the great commission, and that its only offices are bishops (or pastors or elders) and deacons. (Places where taught: Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:41-47; Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:1-13)
We believe that the heavenly church of the New Testament is in prospect and shall in the fullness of time assemble the called, the justified, and the glorified without spot or wrinkle, "a glorious church." (Places where taught: Ephesians 5:25-27)
- Spiritual Gifts
We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowment of all His numerous gifts, and that the gifts of evangelists and pastor-teachers are sufficient for the perfecting of the saints for today, and that speaking in tongues and the working of sing miracles gradually ceased as the New Testament Scriptures were completed and their authority became established. (Places where taught: Ephesians 4:18-16; 1 Corinthians 13:8-10)
- Creation
We believe that God created the universe in six literal 24-hour consecutive periods. We reject evolution, the Gap-Theory, the Day-Age Theory, and Theistic Evolution. (Places where taught: Genesis 1-2; Exodus 20:11)
- Civil Government
We believe that God has ordained and created all authority consisting of three basic institutions: 1) the Home; 2) the Church; 3) the State. Every person is subject to these authorities, but all (including the authorities themselves) are answerable to God and governed by His Word. The Home, the Church, and the State are equal and sovereign in their respective Biblically assigned spheres of responsibility under God. (Places where taught: Romans 13:1-7; Ephesians 5:22-24; Hebrews 13:17; 1 Peter 2:12-14)
- Human Sexuality
We believe that God commanded that no intimate sexual activity should be engaged in outside of marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God's gift of sex. (Places where taught: Genesis 2:24, 19:5, 13, 26:8-9; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; 1 Corinthians 5:1, 6:9; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4)
- Abortion
We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion is the murder of unborn human life. We reject any teaching that abortions of pregnancies due to rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth/population control, or the mental well being of the mother are acceptable. (Places where taught: Job 3:16; Psalm 51:5, 139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24, 49:1,5; Jeremiah 1:5, 20:15-18; Luke 1:44)
- Lawsuits Between Believers
We believe that Christians are prohibited from bringing civil lawsuits against other Christians or the Church to resolve personal disputes. We believe the Church possesses all the resources necessary to resolve personal disputes between members. We do believe, however, that a Christian may seek compensation from another Christian's insurance company as long as the claim is pursued without malice or slander. (Places where taught: 1 Corinthians 6:1-8; Ephesians 4:31-32)
- The Eternal State
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment. We believe the souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the Lord, where in conscious paradise, they await the first resurrection, when spirit, soul, and body are reunited to be glorified forever with the Lord. We believe that the souls of the unbelievers remain, after death, in conscious punishment and torment until the second resurrection, when with soul and body reunited they shall appear before the Great White Throne Judgment and shall be cast in the Lake of Fire, not to be annihilated, but to suffer eternal conscious torment and punishment for all eternity. (Places where taught: Matthew 4:2-11, 25:41-46; John 5:28-29, 11:25-26; Revelation 20:4-6, 10, 12-13; Philippians 1:23, 3:21; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Mark 9:43-48; Luke 14:12-17)
