I've seen the movie, so I was curious to see what the Christmas special was all about. I was pleasantly surprised! It reminded me of the movie Disney just released on DVD: The Lion King 1 1/2. They went back and built on the existing movie and wove another tale from the existing one for you to watch. The theme was hope. I kept thinking all throughout the movie, "What a strange theme to choose". Almost all of the Christmas specials now are about giving, love, or something along those lines. And to be honest, I don't think anywhere in the special they elaborated on just what hope they were referring to. Later that evening it struck me. What is the reason for Christmas? It's Jesus' birth. And that brings hope because if He hadn't been born, then He couldn't have died on the cross and rise from the dead to be our Savior. I know, that is a little deep, even for Disney. I searched the internet to see if I could find any information about the story or production. All I got was a bunch of critics who couldn't recognize a good movie if it hit them upside the head. It could be possible that the story writer submitted it (leaving out obvious references to Christianity), and Disney liked the idea. Hey, it could happen. Disney picked up the Narnia series. The allegory in Narnia has whole libraries written about its many references to Christianity that the lost would miss. To be honest, I had to read the whole series twice to catch it all =P
So in closing, I would greatly recommend this movie for the family to watch, and maybe Christians shouldn't be so quick to abandon Disney altogether...just yet ^_^'
